What WordPress Theme should I use?

Having worked with WordPress over the past year or so, I’ve been able to use many themes, both free and premium for the projects I’ve worked on (both personal and for clients), and have learned quite a bit from all the tweaking I’ve done on multiple themes. When you decide to have a self-hosted blog or website using the WordPress publishing platform, choosing a theme is probably the most important thing you’ll do from a design perspective because it will dictate how your site will look to the world. You want your site...

How to Create a Thumbnail Screenshot of a Website

When creating websites and website portfolios, one of the things you may want or need to have is a thumbnail image of a website. I have recently found an online tool that is an excellent resource for this function – it’s called the “Thumbalizr”. It is very easy to use – simply enter the URL (website address) into the appropriate field on their website, wait a few seconds, and you’re done! It gives you the option to download different thumbnail sizes – either preset sizes, or custom sizes! The...

Photo Art with Topaz Labs Photoshop Filter Plugins

I recently discovered Topaz Labs and their awesome Photoshop Filter plugins, and I have absolutely fallen in love with them! I love the effects I can create using these filters, not to mention how well they get rid of noise, sharpen images, correct image color, etc. – the list goes on and on! The feature I’m most obsessed with is the “clean 2” filter, which basically filters the image to a point where it almost looks like a painting! To show you what I mean, I’m posting some photos below. You can purchase plugins...

Picnik

September 22nd, 2012 Update: Picnic has been discontinued by Google, unfortunately, however, there is a new tool being developed by some of the Picnik developers called PicMonkey – it’s even better than Picnik, though currently in Beta: One of the most important aspects of having a website or a blog is having images or photos in pages or posts, and this is where some people start to stumble a bit. If you’ve never worked with image manipulation software, this task can seem a bit daunting. Friends, family and clients have all...

New Beginnings with WordPress

New Beginnings with WordPress

I have spent a lot of time since August 2008 learning how to work with WordPress as a blogging platrom as wel as using it as a CMS (Content Management System). I have to say I absolutely love this publishing platform! It is so easy to work with! I have always wanted to build websites, but programming has never been something I’ve been able to pick up and learn, whether it be due to lack of time, and also because I tend to be more creative and less mathematical. I discovered in university that to major in Computer Science, one needs to...
